A child's brain growth can be seen from the behavior. Teenagers who behave badly to show growth inhibition in brain regions associated with emotion, especially fear and the ability to feel the suffering of others.
Research University of Cambridge to try to explain why five percent of schoolchildren suffer from behavioral disorders (conduct disorder). A psychiatric condition characterized by aggressiveness and anti-social.
The researchers studied 63 adolescent boys with a mean age of 18 years and have behavioral disorders. Some of them have problems at an early age and multiple displays anti-social behavior
in adolescence.
They then compared with a group of adult men aged 27 years with the same background. Brain scans showed that two regions are significantly smaller seen in adolescents who suffer from behavioral disorders, including those who start behaving badly as a teenager.
Both the area of the amygdala and insula, which contribute to emotional perception, empathy, and ability to know when others are in a depressed state.
This condition can develop in children who are still relatively young, or teenagers. Those who develop it are at risk of mental problems, the use of illegal drugs, and criminal behavior are greater.
"We hope that our results will contribute to existing psychosocial strategies for detecting high-risk children who develop anti-social behavior," said the study's authors, Ian Goodyer, who published his research in the American Journal of Psychiatry.
